my favorite cruelty free brands

Have you ever researched what it really means for a brand to be cruelty free? It’s OVERWHELMING to say the least. I know that most people find it too hard to make the transition to a plant based lifestyle overnight (especially with their diet) and often give up on it altogether. But I think what really matters is that we all make the small changes where we can. One of the easiest changes you can make is to start buying cruelty free beauty and household products. What we are telling companies when we buy products tested on animals is that we think it’s okay. In reality, I think most people would like to say that they don’t agree with animal testing but continue to support these companies and act like it isn’t happening. We can do better. Agreed?

As most of you know, cruelty free beauty and living is a top priority for me. I have been meat free(and mostly dairy free) for over 14 years and strictly vegan since 2017. So naturally, I do my best to make sure everything in my house is cruelty free. It is a long process to replace everything you own… and frankly, very expensive. I recommend replacing things one by one as you run out.

I’ve listed some cruelty free beauty brands and household brands to get you started. By no means it this a master list. There are so many awesome cruelty free brands out there. These are just the brands that I buy and support very regularly. For more extensive lists and information check out a few of my favorite blogs:

SKINCARE:

  • Glymed Plus I was introduced to Glymed through my aesthetician, Amy Salas. I was super pleased to find out that they are cruelty free. My skin has improved DRAMATICALLY since investing in this line. If you need proof, just click here. The link provided is through Amy’s store and while the website is super informative, I highly recommend booking a facial service with her so she can create a customized skincare routine for you.

  • COSMEDIX Specifically, I use the Mystic hydrating treatment to set my makeup.

BATH + BODY:

  • Love Beauty and Planet I love their body wash and they have one of my favorite cruelty free deodorants. (Probably one of the hardest things to find in my opinion)

  • LUSH Because we all love a good bath bomb.

  • Aveda In the beginning of my career, I worked for Aveda and totally fell in love with the products- skin, body and hair. Honestly, I could write and entire separate blog on this brand.

  • Dr. Bronner’s I love their soaps and shaving soaps, but I also love the pure castille soap for household cleaning.

  • Hello My go-to toothpaste and mouthwash brand.

  • Schmidt’s Another deodorant brand I love, but they also have cleaning products and laundry detergent.

HOME:

  • Method I love everything I’ve tried by this brand, especially their laundry detergent. I have sensitive skin and get nervous about switching it up, but I’ve had no issues here.

  • Mrs. Meyer’s Never tried anything I don’t like. Try the hand soaps first!

  • Seventh Generation These are my favorite dish soaps.

MAKEUP:

  • Stellar Beauty Two words: Limitless Foundation. I don’t wear makeup often but when I do, I require it to look super natural. This foundation is perfect for when I go out. Full coverage to me, but likely light-medium for regular makeup wearers. I find it hard to come by brands that have fair-light shades with yellow undertones. I wear shade L02 in this foundation.

  • Glossier Masters of the “no makeup” makeup look, just like me.

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills I love everything by this brand but I think we all know they’re notorious for their badass brow products.

  • Morphe Great affordable makeup. I specifically love their liquid liner and palette options.

HAIR:

  • Kevin Murphy Another brand I could and probably will write an entire blog on.

  • Olaplex They call it insurance for your hair for a reason.

  • Amika My clients rave about this brand. There’s something for everyone, it smells great, and it’s affordable.

  • REF Stockholm My favorite product is the leave in conditioner. It’s rare that I find one that doesn’t make my hair oily.

  • Ouai The wave spray changed my life and Jen Atkin is one of my favorite people to follow.
